In the previous article, we have spoke a little bit on "subluxation". Subluxation is defined as misalignment of a partial spinal segment that has nerve interference. You must be wondering, how do people get subluxation? Does a healthy person get it? The answer would be, definitely and subluxations occur at any age.
We call it the three T's of subluxation whereby they are trauma, thoughts, and toxins. These are the 3 main reasons an individual can develop subluxation. We will discuss further on how they actually develop and the process that happens along.
Trauma: Subluxation that is caused by trauma is the most well-known as everybody know that accident or even falls will contribute to spinal subluxation. However, many people do not know that the little daily habits that they do are actually micro-trauma to the body. Some prime examples are, crossing the legs, carrying a backpack only on one side, putting the wallet behind the back pocket, wearing high heels and sleeping on your stomach. These may seem harmless to you at first, but after a long period of time (and i mean YEARS), you may suddenly feel discomfort all of a sudden. Without a doubt, some degree of subluxtion has formed due to the micro-trauma the body has taken over the years.
Thoughts: This can seem a surprise to many but stress can also cause subluxations in the body. I am sure many people experience some form of stress on a daily basis. When the body undergo stress, the muscles around the spine will become tight and eventually, the tension can cause a subluxation in the spine. The emotional stressors can also cause a chemical imbalance in the body.
Toxins: This can be a little tricky, as it is pretty hard to link between the chemicals in the body to subluxation. When the body is healthy, all the chemicals and hormones is balance and at a state of "homeostasis" (state of equilibrium). However, depending on the food and drink you consume and the environment as well, this can alter homeostasis and become imbalanced. How does the toxin enter the body? It enters in many various ways such as processed food, the water you are drinking, air and water pollution. The imbalance of chemical in the body can affect the length in the muscle, thus creating a subluxation.
This can be very overwhelming to many, but rest assure that this issue can be dealt with. Chiropractors are trained to find subluxation and fixing it in order to allow the body to function at their best. It is really impossible to avoid all the little things that may contribute to subluxations, but chiropractic care can help you to be in the best shape on a daily basis.
Chiropractic care is not just the mere cracking and popping, it is the restoration to a more meaningful and fulfilling life. It is a lifestyle, just like exercising and eating.
